Fear....

This week Jaden came bursting in the front door, threw her violin on the couch, was grabbing at her backpack trying to get it off her back quickly then she threw herself into my arms and starting sobbing. The kind of sobbing where her whole body was shaking and she could barely catch her breath. I held her tightly and asked her what was wrong....maybe a fight with a school friend or the bullying had started up again. In between sobs she managed to say "Ducky has leukemia". "Ducky" is a school friend...for whatever reason they have animal names for each other...lol I believe there is a "piggy" a "doggy".....anyway Leigha (Ducky) is in hospital and getting ready to start treatments to beat the leukemia.

The fear in her voice as she started telling me about this cancer. The school has handled it very well, brought all the grade 5 kids together and explained what Leukemia was/is. They are going to have a bake sale to raise money for the sick kids hospital, they have already taken a grade 5 picture and that will be brought up to Leigha's hospital room, they are going to learn a song and go sing it to her in the hospital and have set up a school email so they can communicate with her from her room when she is feeling strong enough to do so.

When Jade was holding onto me and sobbing, I wanted to cry along with her. It was heartbreaking to see her so sad and so scared for her friend. Then to imagine what that little girls family is feeling, the journey they have ahead of them as they prepare to battle for their child's life....fear of the unknown, fear that this can happen to anyone.
