I am so ticked off!! Jaden made such a big deal about wanting one of those "pook toques"......she was so excited to wear it to school yesterday, and today it was the cause of some tears!! I guess a couple of girls were making fun of her in it...or rather the way she had it done in a knot on top....so she did not want to wear it today. The thing that bugs me is that one of the girls she has known since JK and she also has one of these hats but wears it the way it comes with the socks just hanging down, the point of these hats is you can get creative with them.... These are a couple of girls that she considers friends.....I just want to yell at her, make her understand that it is a bunch of crap, friends don't make you feel that way, or treat you like that. I want her to say screw them (in her head...lol) and wear the hat however she wants, that she needs to be true to who she is.....but how do you make a nine..almost ten year old understand that? I did the whole they make fun of it to make themselves feel "cooler"...a couple of them don't have one, maybe they are jealous.....but when you are ten you just hear/feel friends embarrassing you.....at least she was able to admit that she felt embarrassed, but I want her to be able to stand up to them......just not sure the best way to get her to understand that there will always be people like that and the sooner she knows how to deal with them the better.
Kids are mean, some unintentionally but unfortunately so many do it just to be mean. I did use the line that now you know how it feels for someone to say something like that make sure you never do that to someone else.....I get that my kids may something that hurts somebody's feelings, I just hope it is never with malicious intent.
This all happened ten minutes before she had to leave for school, she did not wear the hat. We will have another talk after school.
Why do things have to be so hard....I would hate to be that age again. She is smart, talented, beautiful (in and out)....and some how I fear she is not feeling any of those things.
I would like to go and kick those girls asses.......I am guessing that would not go over so well ;)
