My poor little man had a rough September! He had a toothache which quickly turned into an abcessed tooth! His face was so swollen, they put him on antibiotics but since he is allergic to Amoxicillin he had to have stronger stuff and it was nasty, so nasty that he would throw up as soon as he even smelt it!! We had to have them prescribe something else, still not great but after a couple of visits to the hospital we had him convinced to take the medicine. Being on this medicine caused a few more visits to the hospital but all is well now :) In the end there was a visit to the dentist and a painful extraction of the tooth, he is now traumitized! Turns out that he has very weak enamel and although he is a kid that brushes his teeth many times in a day he is so prone to cavities! After much discussion with his new dentist (Ry likes the fact that there is a tv in the roof) we have decided to have him put under while they do a lot of work to get his mouth back in order! This was not supposed to happen for a few months but we got a call this week and he is going in on Monday, surgery is at 4:30pm. My first thought was to not tell him about the surgery, but after talking with some people we have decided honesty will be the best policy with him. I took him to the hospital to visit with a child life specialist and we were able to see the operating room, play with the masks etc so he is feeling so much better about everything. We are also very fortunate that a friend of ours is an anesthesiologist and has agreed to do Rylans anesthesia!! I am still nervous about the surgery, but I know that he is in good hands and I am able to go with him to the OR until he is asleep.
