Kiwanis!

Jade's class was in Kiwanis this year, they got Gold! Jaden and a friend decided that they wanted to do a duet in Kiwanis and they did great! silver, she said she was nervous playing in front of a judge but she did great!

Crazy Hair Day!

The boys had crazy hair day at school......

First Basketball game..........

Jade was so nervous, I don't think she was prepared for how fast the game moves......but she survived and they won 22-8. She was playing in a tournament this weekend and she did much better, they even passed her the ball which just made her day, she looked more comfortable out there. They have won all their games so far and are in the finals for the tournament:)

Basketball......really???

Jaden came home on Tuesday saying that she wanted to try out for the school basketball team. I did not know that Jaden even knew how to play basketball. So without any complaining she got up at 6:30am on Wednesday and Shane drove her to the 8am tryouts. Shane talked to the coach to see what kind of commitment was involved....practices Mon and Wed at 8am then games until 5pm on Tues and Thurs. Ok so it could be done if needed, but still did not really think we would have to worry about it. Then came the text on Thursday at 4:07pm (school gets out at 4:05pm)....I made the team. What. Really? That's great..... So Shane is going to have to help pull this off as her school is a 20 minute drive away. Tuesday games will not be a problem as there is nothing going on Tuesdays (love Tuesdays!!) but Thursdays she dances at 5:30pm so I guess it will be dinner in the car. I am happy that she made the team, she is excited and it will be good for her to try something new.

TGIF cont'd........

The boys were not thrilled to have to go to school this morning, Ry was especially disappointed as he was supposed to have a fieldtrip to the bowling alley and with the buses not running it was cancelled. After school Jackson came in and right away changed into his pj's.....this is becoming his weekend ritual, if he has anything to do with it he will not actually get dressed on the weekends. If we have to go somewhere it seems to turn into a battle as he does not want to change out of his "comfies"...seriously.

Friday evenings involve them vegging on the couch, there is no tv or video games from Mon-Thurs so it is all about Friday evening:)

In other news, the boys got their "Summer" haircuts.....so handsome

compared to what they looked like last week...

We were cupcake central this week, 72 altogether, plus a chocolate cake. Rylan's grade was having a bakesale so we sent in cupcakes, with lots of sprinkles and Ry was so excited to tell me that our cupcakes looked so good they had a price tag of $1 each on them at the sale!!!sweet. From what Ry said they raised $850!!! I am not sure if that is true....but if it is holy crap that is awesome, on top of that he said that they ran out of stuff (which meant by the time he had a chance to purchase something there was nothing left)...so for the next bake sale we are sending in double the amount of cupcakes.

TGIF..

I love Fridays. The end to a long week, Fridays are our slow day....come home and unwind day. Yesterday it rained all day, we could actually see some grass, very exciting...lol Then this morning we woke up to this

Seriously. Enough already. So all buses were cancelled, but Jaden really wanted to go to school as it was an easy day and also because we made cupcakes for her to bring in to share.

So Shane drove her to school. At Pearson once you get to grade 6 you get a locker, and on your birthday your friends can decorate your locker. I think Jade was a little stressed about this, I know she was hoping that someone would take the time to decorate her locker......thankfully they did, she brought home a few of her "decorations"

She also got a birthday balloon and gifts from some of her friends so shewas a happy girl. For her birthday she was allowed to invite three friends to the movies,dinner and then a sleepover. Jade had been hinting about wanting to invite one more girl that she has become good friends with, Sophia. I had said no, because one would turn into two and then it would snowball, but today I had a change of heart. I met Sophia last week and she seems like such a nice girl and I get the feeling that she is a good friend to Jaden so without telling Jaden I called and invited her to come be a part of the "party".....here is a picture of Jaden when she got the call from Sophia saying that she would love to come....Jaden was surprised

Jaden got a bigger part in her school play...she played a tap dancing horse named Ramona. She was awesome:)

Dress Rehearsal...

I brought my camera and then did not take enough pictures. Jade's dances look great this year, she has made a lot of progress. Here is Bombay Dreams with makeup and her tap duet.

Take A Stand....

As a mom who has had a child that was bullied I am all for Antibullying day! Any awareness can only help. The boys were excited to wear their pink shirts and they are aware that their sister was bullied and know that it is not right. Last year I would receive a phone call every day around 10:30am....mom I have a headache, mom my stomach hurts, then it progressed to evening/night time meltdowns, not wanting to go to school. Thing is, my daughter is one of the confident ones, yet she was still a victim of bullying and it was a child in her class that has been to her birthday parties! The last straw was when an older student that knew Jaden found her in a stairwell crying.....sobbing. She had the sense to take Jade to the principal. I then had a meeting with her teacher where I told her that we had contemplated removing Jade from the school, the teacher then had a meeting with the other child's mother and there has not been a problem since. It made for a miserable year! This year she is a completely different child, she is having a great school year and it is now March and I have not received one "not feeling well" phone call. I sometimes think that I waited too long to step in..I tried to play it down, tell Jaden that maybe she was making too much out of some of the things that this girl was doing. Thing is the "little" bullying tactics wore her down....the hurtful words, intimidating gestures and the constant attempts to exclude her from those all important little friendship groups that form out on the playground...they became too much. Too many times she ate her lunch by herself, the feelings of not belonging consumed her....too much for a 10 year old. My hope is that she will never be one of those people, yes she may inadvertently hurt someones feelings but I hope that she will always be aware of how words can affect someone.
